How many countries does each nation share a land border with? Russia and China both have fourteen — the most on Earth. Brazil has ten and borders every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. France has eight in Europe, and eleven once you count the borders of its overseas territories.

Forty-four countries are landlocked. Two countries are doubly landlocked — surrounded only by other landlocked countries: Liechtenstein and Uzbekistan. The United Kingdom has exactly one land neighbor: Ireland. Island nations such as Japan, Iceland, Sri Lanka, and Australia have no land borders at all.
